First and foremost, this books offers a framework for thinking about health, and life, with several guidelines for making choices to align with your body’s needs. This is coupled with ideas for “off the plate” lifestyle habits to cultivate for good health. The recipes that follow offer some ideas for every meal (yes, including dessert) but are definitely meant as a starting point rather than a comprehensive guide. Dr. Deng’s professional expertise in patient-centered holistic supportive care for cancer patients was the original inspiration for this book, but his goal in writing it is to help a wide variety of people before they are ill, possibly preventing disease. Many of these strategies and food dos and don’ts will likely be familiar to you, but they are simply written and easy to understand and fairly bite-sized for easy digestion.
