Sandpoint, Idaho is just a 90-minute drive from Spokane and for such a small town, there is no shortage of food, fun and local adventures to enjoy! Join me while I spend an entire day walking, eating and exploring this charming city.
Situated between the Selkirk and Cabinet Mountain ranges, Sandpoint sits on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille making it a wonderful destination whether you are more a fan of snow or sun!
During the summer, you can find me and my family spending the day at Sandpoint City Beach. It’s the perfect spot to take a picnic and enjoy the sandy beach all day, but there are lots of great to-go options downtown like Burger Dock, Bluebird Bakery and City Beach Organics.
If the beach isn’t your style, there are all kinds of other outdoor activities and adventures in and around Sandpoint. My favorite simple trail that can be enjoyed by the whole family is Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail, a 3.3-mile out-and-back lakeside trail. Head up to Schweitzer for more trails and an amazing view of the entire region. But the mountain isn’t just for hiking—check out Northwest Winefest in July and Fall Fest Labor Day weekend to enjoy all kinds of local beers, ciders and seltzers.
The Farmers Market at Sandpoint takes place Saturday Mornings and Wednesday Afternoons in Fermin park, surrounded by locally-owned small businesses that make this community so special.
Make your trip even sweeter with a stop at Dub’s, Panhandle Cone & Coffee or The Pie Hut for an afternoon snack. The downtown area is packed with restaurants, breweries and shops. The Cedar Street Bridge is filled with clothing boutiques, artisan vendors, a toy store and a kids’ play area for days when the weather doesn’t allow for outdoor fun.
So pack up the car and make your way to 7B to experience some of my favorite spots and discover a few of your own.
