Holiday 2020
18 months ago when I started working on Edible Inland Northwest, I didn't know what I was doing. Sometimes it feels like I still don't, but I'm getting a better idea!
What I did know was that Spokane was at the beginning of something special. The growth that is happening here and across the Inland Northwest is not just exciting, it's inspiring. Now, as we arrive at the end of a year that has been measured in trips to Costco, milestone moments rescheduled and shows binged, I can say that I'm even more excited and inspired than I was before.
We've all faced loss in some way throughout this saga, but I think it's incredibly telling that in a year we will always equate with a pandemic and its resulting shutdown, I have met so many people who have used this time to pursue their dreams, passions and personal development.
Our last issue was a look back. At life quarantining at home, businesses facing a shutdown and plans interrupted. This issue, and all of them to come, is a look toward the future.
While masks and plexiglass partitions weren't a part of anyone's plans this time last year, they're an unavoidable curveball and an essential part of our landscape and for the foreseeable future. There will come a time when we can again sit shoulder to shoulder at bars, go for hay-rides around Green Bluff and share bites of dessert, and when we do, it will be thanks to the strength of this community and the support that we show one another as friends and neighbors who are committed to this town and its growth.
