Cook As You Are
Cook As You Are: Recipes For Real Life, Hungry Cooks, and Messy Kitchens
It’s been quite a few years since Ruby Tandoh was a young, very talented baker on the Great British Baking Show. With maturity, she’s found a strong, valuable voice in the food world. This cookbook is a gift, not only for the interesting, accessible recipes, but also for the commentary and the thought behind every section. She’s thought about cooks with limited time, resources, or physical ability. There are recipes for when you get home from work and you just need to eat. She engages a variety of cultures with respect, and uses weight and food neutral language throughout. This is one of those books you will bring into your kitchen with you, stain, and earmark. It is full of easy dinners, delicious snacks, a cake you can make in the microwave (with fresh thyme, no less) and a few projects if you’re feeling ambitious. Even if none of the recipes speak to you (I very much doubt this) it’s worth reading through for the culture of cooking from exactly where you are, rather than waiting for the perfect kitchen, the perfect life. Cook as you are, Tandoh invites, and in these pages it begins to feel possible.
